How to Size a Solar System for Your Home: A Step-by-Step Method

Oversized systems waste money; undersized systems disappoint. Use this simple method to size your system correctly.

Step 1: Measure Your Consumption

Check your electricity bill for monthly units (kWh). A typical Pakistani home uses 300–800 units per month; homes with inverter ACs use more in summer.

Step 2: Convert to System Size

In most of Pakistan, 1kW of panels generates roughly 4 units per day (120 per month). Divide your monthly units by 120: a 600-unit home needs about a 5kW system; add 20% headroom for growth.

Step 3: Choose the Inverter

Match inverter capacity to panel capacity: a 5–6kW hybrid inverter with dual MPPT for a 6kW array. Popular picks: Suntrix Vortex Z-6/Z-8, Fronus PV 7200, GoodWe ES series.

Step 4: Batteries for Backup

Decide how many hours of backup you need for essential loads (fans, lights, fridge ≈ 800W). For 8 hours: 800W × 8h = 6.4kWh → one 51.2V 105Ah lithium battery (≈5.3kWh usable) covers most of it; two gives comfortable margin.
