Understanding MPPT: Why It Beats PWM and Why Trackers Count

MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) is the reason modern inverters harvest 20–30% more energy than old PWM controllers.

The Physics in One Paragraph

A panel’s voltage and current change with sun and temperature; maximum power lives at a moving “knee” point. MPPT continuously re-finds that point, while PWM simply drags the panel to battery voltage, wasting the difference.

Why Multiple MPPTs Matter

Each MPPT tracks one string independently. With two trackers, an east-facing string and a west-facing string both run at their own optimum — essential for L-shaped roofs or partial shading. That is why we highlight “Dual MPPT” on inverters like the Suntrix Vortex PRO and GoodWe DNS G4.

Rule of Thumb

One roof plane → one MPPT is fine. Two orientations or shading → insist on dual MPPT or more.
